Serial Number Lists Using serial numbers to identify the production date of Reynolds instruments is inherently imprecise given the lack of published records. Except for a fragment of Reynolds' production data from 1964-1979 that is preserved in the Allied Band Supply catalog, I am not aware of any official serial number records for Reynolds brass instruments. Based on my research, there appears to have been at least two serial number sequences associated with Reynolds' production through the early 1960s: one list primarily for Regent and Roth instruments (both of which were originally produced by the Ohio Band Instrument Co. division of F.A. Reynolds) and one list for Reynolds-made instruments, including F.A. Reynolds, Contempora, Professional, Emperor and all other model lines except the aforementioned Roth and Regent lines and all Medalist instruments made before 1964 (serial numbers under 200,000 appear to use the Roth/Regent sequence -- most likely as the Medalist line replaced the Roth model line as Reynolds' primary student instrument line). Reynolds serial numbers were reset in 1964 after production moved to Abilene, Texas and all instruments used the new sequence. The table below summarizes the Reynolds and Regent/Roth sequences; for more detailed information on either list, select from the links on the left. |
